Worship and offering

Shiva Aarti and Puja

A simple guide to worshipping Lord Shiva with attention, humility, mantra, and offerings made from the heart.

Puja flow

A quiet sequence of devotion

Shiva puja may be elaborate in temples or very simple at home. The heart of the practice is remembrance: water offered with sincerity, mantra repeated with steadiness, and a mind that softens into reverence.

  1. Prepare a clean space and sit for a moment of stillness.
  2. Offer water or abhishekam to the Shiva lingam or image.
  3. Offer bilva leaves, flowers, incense, or light as available.
  4. Chant Om Namah Shivaya or another Shiva mantra.
  5. Complete with aarti, gratitude, and a wish for the welfare of all.

Aarti as Light

The aarti lamp is moved before the deity as a gesture of honor. Devotees receive the light as blessing, reminding themselves that sacred presence is not outside the heart alone.

Before

Gather attention

Begin without hurry. A few quiet breaths can turn the same ritual into a deeper offering.

During

Let mantra lead

Chanting keeps the mind steady and gives the hands a devotional rhythm.

After

Carry the mood

The best ending is not abrupt. Let the calm of the practice move into daily action.
